As an atheist and a former journalist, I would like to come out and say that Matthew Roy is a disgrace. When one of my friends told me that there was a piece in The Vanguard about atheism, I was excited to hear about a fellow student supporting a religious movement that is not extremely popular at Bentley College. Unfortunately, instead of logically proving his opinion in a respectful manner, Matthew crudely insulted religion with bogus facts and references to NBA players.

By writing this article, Mr. Roy completely missed the aim of making people aware of atheism and alternatively made atheists look stupid. Although I personally do not agree with the Bible and the existence of a God, I do not believe that "all religions are inherently full of s***." The Church is a fantastic place to build community, and the values they teach are generally good. Although I wish the Church would support gay marriage, I think that the Ten Commandments is a powerful social message. Roy bashes people for looking to their church to solve their problems; however he completely fails to see the point. Many individuals who go to church for help find their assistance in the positive community, not "God." Despite not believing that "God saves," I strongly believe that the community does and should be respected for their social utility.

Matthew Roy is not a representative of atheism. Atheism is based on science and tolerance, not immature remarks on something that one is ignorant about. The Vanguard should be embarrassed to unfairly promote atheism and allow Mr. Roy to mock journalism with his banal vulgarities. If atheism had a formal political structure, I would recommend Matthew Roy to be excommunicated immediately.
